Growth in demand drives new inhouse sales model

Geocon is undergoing a seismic shift in its property marketing with an inhouse sales team developing under the stewardship of international off-the-plan guru Sam Kandil.

“We are experiencing unprecedented demand for our apartments, and now have 3,000 units in the pipeline following our purchase of the City 7 site in Civic, and the Tradies site in Woden last week,” said Geocon General Manager Development, Peter Micalos.

“At Midnight in Braddon, for example, there are only a dozen apartments left for sale out of 230 since we launched the project in February, and we haven’t even put a shovel in the ground there yet.

“The increasing demand from buyers including locals, investors and newcomers to Canberra with our population growing rapidly, means we have to up the ante to deliver an exceptional experience to our buyers; so, we needed an internal team specialised in selling off-the-plan.”

An international search for the right person to lead the new approach resulted in Sam Kandil being appointed as Geocon’s Director – Head of Sales Australia.

“Sam’s wealth of experience in Australia and overseas was second to none and he was a perfect fit to fulfil our vision of a dedicated off-the-plan sales team,” Mr Micalos said.

Starting his working life selling encyclopedias door-to-door, Egyptian-born Mr Kandil has built a career managing sales for property developers selling in Australia, Asia Pacific, India, the Middle East and Europe. Most recently he was the NSW Sales Director for global real state giant Colliers International.

“I’ve always preferred to work for developers. A salesperson who works for a developer is able to take a different approach; they are in it for the long haul with the buyer. You are not competing against yourself, and customers have more trust in you,” Mr Kandil said.

“It’s a smart move by Geocon to bring the sales team inhouse and it has a lot of benefits, with so many projects on the go.”

Currently recruiting his new team of around 10, Mr Kandil said he was looking for an empowered team of professionals who were highly qualified and motivated with a great track record of customer service.
